Website Development and Content Writing

The Ohio Department of Commerce created a new website in 2022. I was brought in for phase 2 which required UX design, content development, technical communications and SEO for the Division of Financial Institutions.

Content Strategy and Planning

Audience Analysis

Identify primary and secondary audiences (financial institutions, companies, consumers).

Create UX personas for each audience segment.

Content Objectives and Goals

Defined objectives for each content piece

  • Is it purely educational?

  • Is it informational with no specific target audience? Is it informational for stakeholders?

  • Is it a consumer alert or warning that needs to be updated or regularly updated?

 

Technical communications aspect – blog, infographic, FAQs?

Content Inventory

Audited existing content, and determined what needs to be updated, removed, or created.

 

Outdated branding and tone needed to be updated

 

PDFs needed to be eliminated, unless necessary, which required content to be revamped.

Content Creation and Organization

Content Drafting

  • Crafted content tailored to the identified personas and user journeys.

  • Worked with SMEs to create tailored content or had SMEs draft copy and then I proofed and edited based on website branding and messaging.

  • Created content that was OCA focused

 

Content Review and Approval

  • Conducted internal reviews for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with goals. Approved content that was ready to go “live”

Technical Comms and Organization

Content Formatting

  • Ensure content is formatted for web readability and accessibility. Run content through Grammarly.

 

Content Input – IT support

  • Utilized WCM tool and input content. (Training provided)

  • Work with IT on website capabilities out of my scope.

  • Ensure technical compatibility (e.g., responsive design, SEO best practices).

Training and Documentation

Create User Guides

  • Develop guides and documentation for divisional team on content management

 

Provide Training

  • Train staff on how to use the CMS and WCM tool and update content as needed.

  • Attended website governance meetings and relay information to divisional web team.

  • Hold monthly meetings with web team on updates, SOPs, strategy planning, etc.
